“START”. This will be the first shared
exhibition between Function + Art and its sister gallery,
PRISM Contemporary Glass. START is geared toward a
new audience, one perhaps not as familiar with craft objects as art.
Accordingly, the exhibit will feature more-accessible (read: relatively
inexpensive) works in furniture, metal, wood, ceramics, and glass. Prices
will range from just under $100 for small pewter vases to $2000 for
a custom-made metal and wood bench. An “After-Work Wednesdays”
series of presentations and discussions will address some of the basics
of: What is Craft? Why should I consider it?, gallery etiquette, building
a collection, insurance issues, and even the investment potential of
three-dimensional objects. Glass, in particular, has seen sharp increases
in price, with some artists work selling for more than 10 times that
charged just a few years ago, rendering much of the “name”
artists’ works unattainable for most people, particularly young
professionals.

START

their speciality. It is expected that we will have 100+ works by more
than 25 artists.
