Greetings,
friends… now that the weather is warming up, I’ve
realized we’re late with our Spring Newsletter… so
here we go! You’ll see we have a LOT to talk about…for
this reason, we’re splitting the newsletters according to
gallery.
Relating
to both galleries, we have hired a new assistant, one with whom
many of you are familiar: James Geisen, formerly
of Marx-Saunders, has recently joined us as an Associate. We couldn’t
be more excited to have him on board, he’s a valuable and
experienced member of our team.
@ Function+Art
As always, it’s been a busy season to date – we’ve
had a wonderful paintings exhibition by Jill
Henry (we sold about ½ the work, and have
taken several commissions – click
here to see if we’ve still got a piece you might like!),
a sculptural wood show for Pascal
(very well received, but some pieces are still available), participated
in the BRIDGE Art Fair during Art Chicago, and
are nearly through our current show: conTEXT.
It’s
been so busy, in fact, that we didn’t realize we’d
missed our 5 Year Anniversary in Chicago 2 weeks ago. How time
flies when you love what you do! Thanks as always to all of you
who have helped us grow.
Meanwhile,
Steve Hansen’s new stacks continue
to be well received: we sold several at SOFA last November, with
2 of those sales slated for inclusion in an exhibition at the
Fuller Craft
Museum. He’s also been commissioned to create a 6-7’
stack for the University
of Iowa Hospital’s collection (http://www.uihealthcare.com/depts/projectart/permanent.html),
which they’ll unveil in July. We have several on exhibit
as part of conTEXT, check them out – we think these narrative,
content-driven pieces are important – excellent works blending
fine art and fine craft.
With
stocks back in the news, we call your attention to Mike
Rollins, whose witty and poignant paintings combine
familiar ticker symbols to form phrases – from witty to
poignant. If you have a phrase or passage that is particularly
meaningful to you, Mike is accepting commissions…just call
or write for more information!
Perennial
favorite Chris
Martin, hard at work on several commissions and a
fabulous new desk for SOFA
this fall, has announced that he and his wife will be joining
the Peace
Corps for a 2-year hitch starting in May of 2008. While we
will be sad to see him go, we commend their spirit of service
and wish them well! Of course, those of you who’ve been
waiting to commission a piece will have to hustle; there’s
only 1 slot for a major piece available – until 2011 ! Call
or write now if you’re interested.
Coming
up: the annual Guerilla
Furniture Fair, June 12 from 6-9pm, always a blast,
and a fundraiser on Friday, June 15 for the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society. Chicago painter Lauren
Strehlow will be featured, with all the proceeds
from any sale being donated to the L&L Society. We’ll
also be featuring a great new selection of studio furniture -
come out and join us for a great cause!
If
you’re in town July 13 (yep, it’s a Friday the 13th),
don’t’ miss Vision
12, the whole-city celebration of art sponsored by the Chicago
Art Dealers Association.
That’s
about it for now, please remember to sign up for the PRISM
newsletter . The first separate newsletter should
be out in a week or so.
Looking
forward to seeing you in the gallery!
Scott, Amy & James.
