ARTIST
STATEMENT
"My work uses visual metaphor to bring
the viewer along a journey. It often evokes different
architectural forms; the strength and traditions associated
with these forms lend importance and legitimacy to the
piece and the ideas within it. I try to recall certain
moods and stages I have been on during my journey, from
despair and uselessness to hope, freedom, courage, peace
and joy. Generally I begin with a personal story that
evoked an emotion, then turn that feeling or experience
into an image or series of images. Most of the images
in my work are from my own photographs; they undergo
a lengthy process of scanning and ‘fiddling’
in the computer before ending up on the metal.
What
I create is highly personal, but it is also meant to
be universal. There are certain internal changes that
all of us face as we move through life, and emotions
that go with them. Therefore, while what I create reflects
my personal passage, it is my hope that you will find
parts of your own journey there, too."
