ARTIST STATEMENT
My recent work in glass is an effort to bring together elements in life that have notably shaped my present awareness. Travel, community building, communing with the wild, and food preparation represent the core of these elements.
Utilizing the teapot form and owing great respect to the Japanese tea ceremony, I incorporate these elements into sculptural and truly functional works of art. I am interested in conveying an awareness of surrounding with these works, using components to give a sense of place, but leaving open space in the piece for the viewer to figuratively construct her/his own conclusion.
