ARTIST
STATEMENT
Wood is the warmest and most genuine material I have experienced.
I choose exceptional pieces of wood and strive to complement
them through sculpting, contrasting, and finishing. Wood
stimulates my senses and challenges my solutions.
I do not limit my imagination or classify my inspiration.
I attempt to fashion what my mind
can conjure. Human, plant, and animal form intrigues and
inspires me most. Sometimes I interpret an idea seriously
and create an elegant work. Other pieces may reflect the
more frivolous character of whimsy, wit, or satire. In
all my work, whether fanciful or purely graceful, I try
to achieve surface quality, good design, and coherent
form. I like function. My work is functional or follows
functional form.
My methods of craftsmanship include the traditional and
the unorthodox. I make a piece that is sturdy, using means
best suited for that design. A sketch usually begins the
physical process but evolution determines the final statement.
I strive to create objects that exist to be viewed, touched,
respected, and cherished.
