David
Hering
During the production of this body of work, I became aware of
various attitudes, perspectives and working methods that recalled the
processes that I had used as a painter. The singular daily pursuit of
a coherent group of pieces fueled the dialogue of integrating my past
visual vocabulary within the framework of glass and glassmaking. With
these new tools, and a respect for the nuance of the intuitive artistic
moment, I have developed this work.
The surfaces are meant to be inviting. Silver foil over a background color,
and powders create the base for a future sand-blasted surface. The graphic
interplay of the residual silver and the colored ground of the vessel's
exterior is crucial in my attempt for an individual expression.
It is my
belief that a unique artistic vision can lie within the contours of the
humble vessel.
