Statement
As a glassblower, I have always had an interest
in pure form. While doing research on geometric forms,
I found that Paul Cezanne had once remarked, "Nature
should be handled with the cylinder, sphere, and cone".
This quote led me to research cubist paintings by Picasso,
Braque, Patrick Henry Bruce and Fernand Leger. Although
I ended up learning about theories and formalities of
cubism, I was not interested in upholding them necessarily.
I was more interested in using the images as a point
of departure, a source to pull various forms out of
the works. What transpired in the glass studio was a
culmination of experimentation, application of new techniques,
and an incredible collaboration with my peers.
